Advocacy CALL to Action

By Savannah Espiritu

Dear Habitat Supporters,

We deeply appreciate your interest in advocating for safe, decent, affordable homeownership opportunities in our community.  As U.S. Senators and Members of the House of Representatives continue negotiations working towards passing a budget before the Continuing Resolution expires on March 14th, we must protect housing programs that are key to Habitat Charlotte Region’s work.

We are calling on you to make your voice heard by contacting your representatives and letting them know that federal programs supporting affordable homeownership for hardworking members of the Charlotte Region are important to you.  Please call and/or email Senators Ted Budd and Thom Tillis as well as your U.S. House of Representatives member (you can find your representative here) and let them know the following:

  • The lack of affordable housing opportunities is one of the leading challenges facing our community.  Budget cuts to programs that support housing and cuts to HUD staff will prevent people in our community from purchasing a home and long time, elderly homeowners will not be able to access home repairs they desperately need.
  • Habitat Charlotte Region has a long track record of utilizing federal programs to make homeownership attainable for low-to-moderate income individuals and allowing long term homeowners to age in place.
  • Since July 1st 2024, Habitat Charlotte Region has utilized federal programs for 26 downpayment assistance loans that make their monthly mortgage payments affordable to them and completed 46 critical home repairs allowing longtime homeowners to remain safely and comfortably in their homes.

Make your voice heard!  Now is the time to let our elected officials know that protecting federal affordable homeownership resources is important to you!

We are so grateful for your support, together we can make our community a better place to live.
